This is an update on coronavirus cases in Indian River County and Brevard County, Florida.

State health department officials are not providing us with the number of “recoveries” in Indian River and Brevard counties. We’ve asked for this information repeatedly. This is what they sent us.

“The State Department of Health does not currently measure ‘recovery,’ and doesn’t expect to have such a designation anytime in the near future,” officials said.

Local:

  • Sebastian: 9 cases
  • Fellsmere: 1 case
  • Palm Bay: 40 cases
  • Malabar: 1 case
  • Grant-Valkaria: 1 case
  • Barefoot Bay: 1 case
  • Micco: 0 cases
  • Vero Beach: 69 cases

Indian River County has a population of 154,000. The patients are 48 men and 32 women between the ages of 8 to 96. There are 9 patients who are non-residents.

  • Hospitalizations: 24
  • Awaiting Results: 61

Brevard County has a population of 590,000. The patients are 122 men and 120 women between the ages of 8 to 94. There are 8 patients who are non-residents.

  • Tested Negative: 6,904
  • Hospitalizations: 45
  • Awaiting Results: 2

  • Cases: 30,839 (843 non-Florida residents)
  • Deaths: 1,055
  • Tested Negative: 302,260
  • Hospitalizations: 4,849

Cleveland Clinic, Indian River Hospital, is providing drive-through testing by appointments from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. To make an appointment, call the hospital at 772-226-4846.

For now, if you are 65 or older, or have an illness or chronic condition, please stay home.
