SEBASTIAN – The 2002 Diner in Barefoot Bay is officially changing ownership Sunday, April 22nd.

The new owner of the diner, located at 937 Barefoot Blvd, is Robert Schmidt from Corona, California where he helped his uncle open a business called Jersey’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant.

Schmidt says he loves serving people good food. He looked at leases for restaurants in southern California, but nothing followed through.

“This whole time I was talking periodically with my mom about what I was doing and looking for. She said to keep praying,” Schmidt told Sebastian Daily.

One day Schmidt’s mother told him about the potential sale of 2002 Restaurant in Barefoot Bay.

“I bought a round-trip ticket to meet Ray the owner as soon as possible. I seem to have my prayers answered,” said Schmidt.

“I knew I needed to begin a new journey for myself and lead a crew and have everyone feel comfortable at work,” he added.

Schmidt is very optimistic and brings a lot of positive energy.

We had breakfast there Sunday morning, and there’s already a good vibe at the restaurant. Looking forward to our next visit when Schmidt takes over the kitchen.
