SEBASTIAN – A tropical wave is in the Atlantic that has a 50 percent chance of cyclone development during the next five days. Although this disturbance may only mean a lot of rain for Sebastian, Fellsmere, and Vero Beach.
“Although no significant development of this system is expected during the next day or two, conditions are forecast to become a little more conducive by Tuesday, and a tropical or subtropical cyclone could form during the middle of the week,” the National Hurricane Center said.
The tropical wave appeared yesterday in the Atlantic a few hundred miles east of the Lesser. The storm is gradually becoming better defined and continues to produce strong gusty winds mainly to the east of the disturbance.
With only about two weeks left of the 2018 Hurricane Season, the tropical disturbance is another reminder that things aren’t over yet. So far, it’s been a busy season.
On Sunday morning, the hurricane center gives the chance of this wave developing over the next two days a near zero percent chance. Formation chance over the next five days is now at 50 percent.
Sebastian and Vero Beach may only get a lot of rain from this system as it moves closer to Florida. Environmental conditions may keep this disturbance as a wave or a small tropical depression.
As of right now, there is no threat of a hurricane or major storm from this disturbance as it moves closer to our area. There is also the possibility of another cold front moving through Sebastian and Vero Beach this week.
