VERO BEACH — An Indian River County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized under a trauma alert after a two-vehicle crash at a Vero Beach intersection Friday morning.
Deputy D. Hoffman radioed at 7:41 a.m. that he had just been involved in the wreck at Oslo Road and 58th Avenue SW. Several other callers also dialed 911 to report the crash.
Hoffman was taken to Lawnwood Regional, where he was listed in stable condition. The second driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Crews closed the intersection for about an hour while they worked the scene. It has since reopened.
The cause remains under investigation. An initial review indicates the deputy was not at fault.
