SEBASTIAN — A community fundraiser to replace the play clocks on the Sebastian River High School football scoreboard is complete.
Seventeen local businesses donated a combined $10,350. All checks have been turned in to Coach Amy. The game clocks have been ordered. Money left after the purchase will go into the football program.
Bryan Rhoades, a 1998 Sebastian River graduate and owner of RiverRide Cart Rentals, launched the drive with a public Facebook Reel on Aug. 28. Visiting teams had been arriving to a scoreboard with no working play clock.
“It’s pretty embarrassing for us when teams come, and there is no play clock,” Rhoades told Sebastian Daily when the effort began. “You know we have to raise money for everything as Sebastian River Sharks, you know, for sports, while other schools just get it handed to them.”
Six businesses, including Rhoades’ own, put up $4,500 in the first day. The original target was another $1,500 to finish the job. Support kept coming until the total reached $10,350 from 17 businesses. The extra money raised will go toward SRHS sports.
Rhoades had been working with Coach Perry, Coach Amy, and Coach Phin to get the clock in place.
