The Lighten Up & Root Down Meditation Group will present a free talk on Zen meditation by author, voice artist, actor, activist, and Zen priest Peter Coyote on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. EST at Nichole Marie Collective, located at 900 Village Square Drive, Suite 1, in Sebastian.

Discovering Zen
Coyote first discovered Zen as a teenager through the works of poet Gary Snyder and actor Jack Kerouac, among others. He met Snyder and was impressed with his “gravitas and elegance, his care and deliberation.”
He began practicing meditation and eventually became a dedicated practitioner of American Zen Buddhism in 1975, joining the San Francisco Zen Center. Later, he was ordained a lay priest in the Soto tradition and was ordained as a Zen priest in 2015.
