A routine traffic stop in the early morning hours last Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a man on drug trafficking charges.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy Brenden Weber initiated the stop after observing a vehicle fail to obey a traffic control device in Micco.
With assistance from Palm Bay Police Officer Manning and his K9 partner “Irish,” a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 85 grams of methamphetamine and 18 grams of fentanyl. The drugs were found in a black box and backpack located near passenger Christopher Amoretti of Barefoot Bay.
Amoretti admitted to knowing about the drugs and stated that the other individuals in the vehicle were unaware of their presence. He was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and trafficking in fentanyl.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey emphasized the county’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime, especially when it involves bringing dangerous drugs into the community. He commended Deputy Weber and the Palm Bay Police Department for their collaborative efforts in keeping Brevard County safe.
“It takes a community to protect a community,” said Sheriff Ivey. “All of our law enforcement agencies in Brevard do whatever it takes to keep our county one of the safest places to call home.”
