INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Retiring Indian River County Commissioner Joe Flescher has endorsed Sebastian Vice Mayor Bob McPartlan in the race to succeed him in District 2.
Flescher, who is not seeking a fifth term after nearly 20 years on the commission, announced his support for McPartlan ahead of the Aug. 18 Republican primary.
McPartlan, a longtime Sebastian City Council member and former mayor, is one of three Republicans seeking the open seat. The others are Jennifer Pippin and Daniel Brooks Robinson. The primary winner will face Democrat Robbie Hardingham in the Nov. 3 general election.

His confidence in my leadership and commitment to serving Indian River County means a great deal to me,” McPartlan said. “I’m ready to put my experience, leadership, and dedication to work for the people of Indian River County. Together, we can continue delivering results, strengthening our community, and ensuring Indian River County has the experienced leadership it deserves. I would be honored to earn your vote.”
Flescher was first elected to the commission in 2006 after serving as a deputy with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. He has previously served as commission chairman and has focused on issues including the Indian River Lagoon, public safety and infrastructure.
McPartlan has served on the Sebastian City Council since 2011, including terms as mayor and vice mayor. He is a U.S. Army veteran and has worked more than 25 years with the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The District 2 seat covers much of northern Indian River County, including Sebastian. All county voters can cast ballots in the race.
