On Sunday, the Sebastian Police Department received a call from the residence of Sebastian councilman Damien Gilliams and his son Damien Lee Fey Gilliams about criminal mischief.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Layport Drive, where they spoke with Gilliams’ son.

“He woke up this morning around 5:30 a.m. and noticed that someone had egged his vehicle sometime overnight,” the officer said.

Gilliams’ son believes someone from a Facebook private page, Sebastian Voters Against Gilliams and Parris, may have been involved in the incident. However, he could not provide an exact name or suspect information, according to the report.

“I observed the vandalism on the front shield, where I noticed the eggs made the impact. There appeared to be multiple eggs that were thrown at the vehicle. It appeared that some of the egg residue known as the yolk had traveled down the windshield and to the AC intake,” according to the officer.

The son said he took his 2011 BMW for a ride around the block and could smell the “rotten egg smell” coming through his AC vents. Gilliams’ son valued the damages to be approximately $1,000 due to the yolk getting into the AC unit of his vehicle. The vehicle was parked halfway in the grass and halfway in the road when the incident occurred.

Councilman Damien Gilliams also had his vehicle “egged” overnight. Gilliams explained that he noticed that the hood of the trunk of his 2005 Mercury 4-door had “sustained some egging.”

“I observed damages on the Mercury, and it appeared that approximately two eggs made impact on the hood of the trunk near the left side. No other damages were observed on the vehicle,” the officer said.

Police said that while they were investigating, they observed a “whole white egg” in the grass area located next to the left side of the son’s vehicle.

“I collected the egg carefully, and it will be placed into evidence for fingerprinting and processing,” the officer said.

The councilman then pointed out a blue rubber glove that was near the intersection of Braddock and Layport Drive.

“I observed the used glove, and it was placed into evidence and will also be processed for fingerprints,” according to the officer.

Gilliams told police that he did not have any security cameras at his residence.

Gilliams and his son were asked to call the Sebastian Police Department if any other details arise. A crime scene unit processing request was filed.

The incident report is pending until the Sebastian Police Department gets results back from the egg and glove.

We then reached out to the admins of the Facebook page known as Sebastian Voters Against Gilliams and Parris.

“We don’t believe anyone from our group egged their vehicles,” Christopher Nunn, the Facebook group admin, told Sebastian Daily.

The Sebastian Voters Against Gilliams and Parris is a Facebook group created by concerned Citizens in Sebastian. The group is gathering more info about the two city council candidates to prepare for a recall, which they say could begin on May 20, 2020.

Since Gilliams is blaming the Facebook group, the admins plan to address the egg incident during the next city council meeting on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.
