VERO BEACH — Most people can name a teacher who made a lasting difference — the one who pushed a little harder, offered quiet encouragement or simply believed in them when it mattered.
This August, the local nonprofit What a Teacher Wants, What a Teacher Needs is asking Indian River County residents to remember those teachers and show support for the ones working in classrooms today.
The organization has launched “100 People Who Believe in Teachers,” a month-long campaign that seeks to recruit 100 community members. Participants will help supply requested classroom materials while sending a clearer message: teachers here are not alone.
“I wanted teachers to know someone believes in them,” founder Jen Amos said. “Every day, teachers encourage, inspire and believe in their students. This campaign is an opportunity for our community to do the same for them.”
Throughout the month, the group plans to share classroom stories and notes from local teachers. Residents are also invited to share their own memories of educators who shaped them.
Those who join the 100 will help deliver the specific supplies teachers have requested, giving students needed resources and reminding educators their work is noticed.
