The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 189, in Sebastian, performed their Memorial Day Re-Flagging at Sebastian and Winter Beach Cemeteries on Saturday, May 20, 2023. At 9:30 am, the two sets of volunteers left for their respective cemeteries for the placement of flags on the graves of our Veterans.

These ceremonies are part of Operation: Remember Our Heroes Program, which began in 2014 with one grave. They now cover more than 1000 graves. The program is funded through fundraising events, public donations, and corporate sponsorships. It is performed twice a year for Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Brookside (Fellsmere) Cemetery – Volunteers needed

The Daughters of the American Revolution is partnering with Squadron 189 to perform the flagging at Brookside (Fellsmere) Cemetery and will perform the flagging on May 25, 2023.

Volunteers who cannot be there at 9:00 am are asked to be there by 9:45 am; the ceremony will begin at 10:00 am. Please wear appropriate clothing as it is warm, and there is also the possibility of rain. Youth is always encouraged to attend and learn.

Donations

Donations can be made directly to the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 189, located at 807 Louisiana Ave, in Sebastian.

Used Flags Ceremony

The used flags will be properly retired at a ceremony on June 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at American Legion Post 189. The public is welcome, but please, no pets except for registered Service Animals.

For additional information about these events or American Legion Post 189, call (772) 589-8710 or email.
