The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Sebastian and surrounding areas, including Brevard County and Indian River County.

Heavy rainfall is expected this afternoon and through the overnight hours until Tuesday morning. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 4 inches are possible. Some areas may get higher amounts of up to 6 inches.

“Isolated lightning storms will be possible across the area this afternoon through the night. Any storm that forms will be capable of lightning strikes, brief heavy downpours, and wind gusts up to 40mph,” the NWS said in a statement.

“Training or slow-moving showers and storms could lead to minor to localized moderate flooding, especially in low lying and poor drainage areas. A Flood Watch is now in effect,” NWS added.

For boaters, winds will generate rough surf conditions at the Sebastian Inlet today. Isolated lightning storms will be possible over the Atlantic waters and inland tonight. Expect wind gusts up to 34 kts (39 mph).
