VERO BEACH – A vehicle ran over a 3-year-old child in Vero Beach Friday morning.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said the child was hit by an SUV while the owner of the vehicle was backing up. The driver didn’t see the child.
There were other reports that the child had fallen out of the vehicle while the SUV was backing up.
The accident took place in the 1405 58th Avenue about 11:00 a.m. That’s the address of CW Willis Family Farms.
The young child was flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Eric Flowers said.
Witnesses say the child was not talking and his head was swelling.
The investigation is now being handled by the Florida Highway Patrol.

UPDATE – The child, Enzo Surma, was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m.
