Sebastian Charter Junior High student Hank Miller recently joined hundreds of singers from across Florida at Stetson University’s “Singing 500” Tenor/Bass Festival.
The event, held on Friday, January 31st, provided Miller with a day of intensive rehearsals culminating in a public concert on the Stetson campus in DeLand.
Miller wasn’t the only SCJH connection at the festival. Alumnus Joey Rumberger also participated, opening the day with a solo pipe organ performance before joining the massed choir.
Ethan Kinkle, SCJH director, expressed his pride in Miller and other former students who continue to pursue music. “I am so proud of Hank, and all of our former students who continue to make music at their varying stages of life. Music enriches the soul and helps build well-rounded people.”
The SCJH Choir is also preparing for their own upcoming performances. Next month, they will participate in the Florida Vocal Association’s “Music Performance Assessment” – a first for the program. Following that, the choir will begin rehearsals for their “Spring Sing” concert in May. The concert program will feature a diverse selection of music, including traditional, classical, and soundtrack pieces.
