Our fishing report stalled earlier this week due to bad weather at the Sebastian Inlet. We also had a storm that spawned a funnel cloud in Sebastian, which turned into a tornado in Micco.

But as of yesterday, anglers tell Sebastian Daily flounder are biting, snook, redfish (catch and release only), and jack crevalle are hit or miss.

Temperatures will be near 82 for the rest of the week, with a slight chance of rain. Winds are east to northeast at 10 to 15 mph.

The preferred bait is live shrimp, finger mullet, artificial lures, and silver spoons as bait.

Kirby Kitchener, a local real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in Sebastian, caught a nice flounder last week at the Sebastian Inlet on the outgoing tide using live finger mullet as bait. It was the first time he fished at the jetty.

Kitchener said a lot of sand was dumped on the beach, and it is now making its way to the inlet because of the tides.

“It is actually filling in the inlet in some areas where now you can walk on the North side where the rocks are,” he told Sebastian Daily.

The angler has been casting a fishing line at the inlet since the 1970s.

“I caught the flounder on 20lb test mono with a PENN spinning reel on an 8′ rod. I also saw 6 nice snook, 1 redfish, a bunch of blues on the North side using spoons, and some big Jacks caught. Most of the Snook were caught on large Shrimp, which are hard to find right now. I fished the outgoing tide until it switched around 4 p.m., then fewer fish were caught on the incoming tide,” said Kitchener.

Boaters and Marine Forecast
