SEBASTIAN — A Michigan woman was arrested Tuesday after deputies say she struck her mother in the face with a hammer during a domestic dispute that began in their car and ended in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven near Sebastian.
Heather Lynn Wilson, the daughter, was booked into the Indian River County Jail on charges including aggravated battery and kidnapping, following the incident at the store at 8530 U.S. Highway 1, according to an arrest affidavit.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call at 4:34 p.m. that involved a hammer and requested emergency medical services. Dispatch advised deputies that a physical disturbance was taking place in the parking lot at pump 15 near a Dodge Challenger.
Deputies observed Wilson standing next to the gray Dodge Challenger when they approached. Wilson immediately began yelling that he was not a real cop and tried to get into the vehicle to flee, the report states. A citizen in the parking lot shouted to the deputy that Wilson had hit her mother with a hammer.
When Kramer attempted to stop her, Wilson actively resisted, pulling away, scratching his hands and arms, and kicking his legs as he tried to detain her. A second deputy arrived and assisted in placing Wilson into mechanical restraints. She was transported to the Indian River County Jail for booking.
Kramer later observed a hammer with a small amount of blood on it in plain view on the passenger-side floorboard of the Challenger.
The victim was found with injuries to the left side of her face and neck. The injuries included bruising around her left eye orbital, scratches to her left cheek where blood had surfaced, bruising on the left side of her neck, and a red, bruised bite mark on her back. Berry was transported to Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital, treated, and released.
According to the victim’s statement to deputies, she and her daughter had been traveling in Wilson’s Dodge Challenger after visiting a cellular store in Brevard County. Wilson was driving. When they returned into Indian River County, Wilson began arguing with her mother and accused her of being involved in identity theft issues she had been experiencing, which she believed were caused by her ex-husband.
The victim said Wilson picked up a large metal construction hammer and threatened to hit her if she did not admit involvement. When she denied any role, Wilson struck her in the face with the hammer. Wilson later ordered her mother to throw her cellphone out the window. The victim dropped the phone between the seat and center console instead. Wilson noticed, became angry, and struck her mother in the face with the hammer a second time before throwing the phone out the window herself.
Wilson then drove recklessly, running red lights and speeding. The mother asked to be let out of the vehicle, but Wilson refused and continued driving erratically. During the drive, the victim said Wilson bit her on the upper back.
When they stopped at the 7-Eleven for gas, the mother grabbed the keys and tried to throw them but gave them back after Wilson threatened her again with the hammer. The victim then fled the vehicle. Wilson ran around to the passenger side and struck her mother in the stomach with the hammer as she tried to escape. The victim ran into the store until deputies arrived.
Wilson remains in custody at the Indian River County Jail on a $45,000 bond.
