INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Department of Utility Services is holding a series of free public workshops in September to explain the IRC Sewer Conversion Countywide Project and what it means for property owners.
The sessions focus on areas of the county where centralized sewer service is already available. Officials say the meetings will cover connection requirements, available financial assistance, and the reasons the county is pushing the conversion.
Each workshop will feature a presentation followed by a question-and-answer period with county staff and project representatives. Residents are encouraged to attend the session that best fits their schedule.

Topics will include state legislation driving the connection requirements, the IRC Sewer Connection Assistance Program, project costs and funding options, what property owners are responsible for, and the overall project timeline.
County officials note that switching from septic systems to centralized sewer service helps reduce nutrient pollution flowing into the Indian River Lagoon. They also say the change protects groundwater and drinking water supplies, eliminates the need for regular septic tank maintenance, and reduces the risk of costly septic system failures or replacements.
