SEBASTIAN — A 36-year-old Sebastian man is being held without bond after police said he attacked a 44-year-old man with a weapon Friday night, leaving the victim with injuries serious enough that he was flown to a hospital.
Daniel Fontanez, of Harp Terrace, was taken into custody within about an hour of the attack in the 200 block of Periwinkle Drive, Sebastian police said.
Officers were sent to the neighborhood about 10:30 p.m. Friday for a disturbance involving Fontanez and the 44-year-old man. Police said Fontanez attacked the man and inflicted serious bodily injury with a weapon. The victim was taken by helicopter to a nearby medical facility.
A 34-year-old woman was also struck during the attack and suffered minor injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Fontanez was located within approximately one hour of the attack and booked into the Indian River County Jail early Saturday on charges of attempted second-degree murder, criminal attempt of a first-degree felony, burglary of an occupied conveyance, and simple battery.
He remained in the Indian River County Jail Sunday with no bond after a first appearance Saturday.
Police said there is no known threat to the public related to the incident.
The investigation remains active.
