SEBASTIAN — Community members spent the morning of Oct. 17 at Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital for the first Passport to Prevention event, timed to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The free gathering let attendees meet physicians and members of the breast imaging team, learn about local breast health services, tour the hospital’s Breast Imaging Center, and book future screening appointments. Visitors also received information on services through Orlando Health Cancer Institute and took part in wellness activities during the event.
“Early detection remains one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against breast cancer,” said Dr. Joseph Bedway, a general surgeon at the hospital who specializes in breast surgery. “Events like Passport to Prevention help connect people with the information, resources, and screenings they need to take an active role in their health, while also emphasizing the importance of regular mammograms and timely follow-up care.”
This year’s event carried a Paris theme, with French-inspired bites and refreshments, decorative touches in the lobby, complimentary mini facials and a do-it-yourself flower bar where guests made their own bouquets. Organizers said the “passport” idea is meant to expand in future years, with new destinations added so participants can continue the prevention journey.
The event focused on breast cancer awareness, early detection, and preventive screenings while linking residents with healthcare resources and specialists close to home.
