A man was arrested Thursday in connection to the death of a woman who was found dead on U.S. Highway 1 near Sebastian, Florida.
Deputies arrested Drew Leibrock, 52, of Sebastian, and charged him with leaving a scene of an accident with death. He was also charged with tampering with evidence.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Leibrock and the woman were drinking alcoholic beverages throughout the night.
Leibrock told investigators he left his residence in his vehicle after the two were in a dispute.
He then drove himself to Whispering Palm Mobile Home Community where he was planning to sleep in his parked vehicle.
“The victim allegedly followed Leibrock to his location and exited her vehicle to confront him and continue the dispute. The victim then struck the outside of his vehicle multiple times and refused to stop or leave,” investigators said.
When Leibrock was attempting to drive away, he struck and ran over the victim before fleeing the scene. Investigators said he did not report the incident.
“Indian River County Sheriff’s Detectives and Traffic Homicide Investigators were able to quickly put the case together and managed to identify Leibrock within hours of locating the victim. Leibrock was then located shortly thereafter in the City of Palm Bay,” the sheriff’s office said.
Interviews were conducted, and an arrest warrant was processed on January 5, 2023.
Leibrock is currently being held at the Indian River County Jail on $100,000 bail.
