VERO BEACH – The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in reference to multiple gunshots being fired near 64th Avenue and CR 510 in Wabasso near Vero Beach.
At the same time, a deputy in the area heard the shots and observed a black Chevy pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed with no lights.
The truck passed the deputy and a chase began. The truck made it’s final stop at 64th Drive and 86th Lane where the driver bailed out and ran.
The driver is a black male, approximately 5’11” to 6′, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jean shorts.
Deputies gave chase on foot but lost sight of the suspect around 86th Street between 64th Drive and 64th Terrace. A perimeter was set up.
K9 units and a helicopter arrived and conducted a search in the Wabasso area.
During the foot pursuit, a deputy found a small semi-automatic pistol and a shoe.
The investigation is still ongoing.
