VERO BEACH — A family of five received more than keys to a new $250,000 house on Wednesday; they walked into a fully furnished, personalized home, courtesy of Indian River Habitat for Humanity and community partners.
The Bowles family has worked through the Habitat program to secure the Vero Beach residence. They expected to walk into an empty house. Instead, they received a turnkey, fully furnished home.
“Speechless. There are no words. Still kind of unreal,” homeowner Garrett Bowles said as the family toured the property, according to WPBF.
The surprise came together thanks to the I-Think Community Foundation’s Building Up initiative, I-Think Financial, Habitat for Humanity, Jetson, and the Realtors Association of Indian River County.
Those groups stepped up to fully furnish the home so the Bowles family could skip the stress and expense of buying furniture and focus on settling into their new house.
The Bowles family had already made sacrifices to prepare for homeownership. Without the comprehensive support, they said the transition might not have occurred at all. One consequence they feared was having to part with their dog.
As they moved from room to room, the emotional weight extended beyond the furnishings. For the Bowleses, the gesture symbolized stability, opportunity, and the start of a new chapter in their lives.
Indian River Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates homes in partnership with qualifying families who contribute sweat equity hours. The organization works with volunteers and donors to address local housing needs in the Treasure Coast.
