The Recycling Club of Sebastian is providing scholarships for Sebastian River High School graduates, including the Cynthia Bohannon Scholarship and the Smith Construction Scholarship.
Applications and nominations for both scholarships are due by Monday, June 30, 2025.
Cynthia Bohannon $1,000 Scholarship
The Cynthia Bohannon $1,000 Scholarship provides for a student
who graduates each year from Sebastian River High School, attending a Florida college full-time in August of that year. The $1,000 Scholarship is mailed to the College Financial Aide office to be spent according to the College rules and regulations. This Scholarship is a nomination application
process from anyone other than relatives of the student nominated and is drawn lottery style. Since its inception in 2015, the Cynthia Bohannon Scholarship has supported eight recipients.
How to nominate & guidelines for the Cynthia Bohannon Scholarship:
- All applications MUST be emailed to the Recycling Club Scholarship Admin at trcnonreply@aol.com (previously awarded applicants need not apply)
- Print or type all information – must be legible.
- Nominator and Nominee cannot be related – no exceptions.
- Nominee must be a Sebastian River High School graduate Class of 2025 and attending a Florida College Full Time August 2025.
- The Selected college student will have to provide three (3) current reference (non-related) letters. Please ask individuals providing references to refrain from mentioning financial status in their letters.
- The selected college student will email reference letters (non-related) to trcnonreply@aol.com, which must be dated after the student is selected, along with the Florida College Name, Financial Aid phone number, and a class schedule showing full-time status, within ten (10) days.
The $1,000 Cynthia Bohannon Scholarship will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s college, to be used in accordance with the institution’s financial aid policies. The nomination form can be found here.
Smith Construction $500(x2) Scholarship
Smith Construction’s $500(x2) Scholarship provides two students who have graduated from Sebastian River High School in the last few years to go to College full-time for at least one year but no more than three years. This application process is completed by the college student and is conducted in a lottery-style format. The students chosen from the drawing will be required to write an essay explaining how public education has helped them, what aspects of public education have not helped them, and what they would change if they could. The $500 Scholarship is sent directly to their college financial office to be spent according to the college’s rules and regulations. The Smith Construction Scholarship, launched in 2019, has awarded nine recipients to date.
- Any graduate from Sebastian River High School 2017 school year and after attending a Florida College full-time (having completed at least one full-time year but no more than three full-time college years) can apply, excluding prior recipients of The Recycling Club Scholarships.
- Email the completed application to the Recycling Club Scholarship Admin at trcnonreply@aol.com and include a typed essay that contains why you feel your K-12 education benefited you, how you feel your K-12 education did not benefit you, and what you would change if you could.
- There will be two College Student recipients for the $500 Smith Construction Scholarships, which will be selected by lottery from qualified applications.
- After selections are made, both recipients will be notified via email, and within 10 days of the email date will need to submit to The Recycling Club Scholarship Admin at trcnonreply@aol.com on their Florida college letterhead – attendance status, earned credits broken down by year, financial aide mailing address and phone # along with student ID#.
- Once Smith Construction $500 College Scholarship recipients have provided to us at trcnonreply@aol.com the requested information, The Recycling Club Scholarship Admin will send $500 Smith Construction Scholarship money to the student’s Florida college financial aid office to be spent according to their college rules and regulations.
- Submit one application only.
