Sebastian firefighter Geoffrey Lang dies at home after personal tragedy

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River County Fire Rescue (IRCFR) is mourning Firefighter/Paramedic Geoffrey Lang, who died Saturday morning at his home in Sebastian following what officials described as a personal tragedy.

Lang, 35, joined IRCFR in 2015 and served more than a decade working out of Station 9 at 13550 Roseland Road in Sebastian. County officials said he was known for his professionalism, compassion and steady commitment to the people he served.

Fire Chief David Johnson released a statement Sunday.

“Today, we mourn the loss of one of our own,” Johnson said. “Geoffrey faithfully served our community for more than a decade, and his absence will be deeply felt throughout our department. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones and ask our community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers as we grieve this tremendous loss.

“We respectfully ask that the privacy of Geoffrey’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters be honored during this challenging time. Memorial service information will be shared when made available.”

Lang is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents.

He grew up in Coral Springs and graduated from the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety before beginning his career in the fire service.

County Administrator John A. Titkanich Jr., County Commission Chairman Deryl Loar and neighboring agencies, including the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Vero Beach Police Department and Sebastian Police Department, offered condolences.

Officials emphasized support for first responders and their families.

“Geoffrey was a dedicated employee. The Board of County Commissioners and County Administration extends condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues,” said Deryl Loar, Commission Chair.

“All commissioners stand with Indian River Fire Rescue and remain committed to supporting the health and well-being of our personnel, including the importance of mental health support for first responders and their families,” added Loar.

Indian River County Fire Rescue said additional details will be released in the coming days.
