VERO BEACH — With a federal freeze on SNAP benefits creating uncertainty for many families in Indian River County, a local nonprofit is offering vouchers to help keep food on the table.
United Against Poverty will begin distributing vouchers for its Member Share Grocery Program on Monday at its center at 1400 27th St. in Vero Beach. The vouchers are available to residents affected by the freeze on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Distribution runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Residents can pick up vouchers during the week they typically receive their SNAP benefits, ensuring aid aligns with their needs.
Local nonprofit agencies will also be on site during those hours to offer additional resources and support for those facing hardships amid the shutdown.
“We know this freeze is creating real fear for veterans, seniors, and families who depend on SNAP to feed their children,” said Matt Tanner, executive director of United Against Poverty. “We’re here to connect people with the help they need right now.”
The organization encourages affected residents to visit the center or check their website for details on programs and resources.
United Against Poverty provides crisis care, case management, education, food and household subsidies, employment training and placement, personal empowerment programs, and referrals to other social services for those in poverty.
