Clear the Shelters Day was Saturday, August 17, 2019, and it was a huge success for the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County.

The local non-profit opened their doors last Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in hopes of clearing the shelter of all of the animals in need of homes.

They put the word out that they would be waiving all adoption fees for the day, and watched as residents lined up at their doors.

It was the first time that the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County participated in Clear the Shelters Day, and it was a massive success.

There were a total of 97 pets adopted in full.

Adoption Fees:

  • Puppy (6 months or less) $250
  • Adult Dog (7 months to 5 years) $80
  • Older Dog (5 years to 10 years) $50
  • Senior Dogs (10 + years) Fee Waived
  • Kitten (6 months or less) $100
  • Adult Cat (7 months to 10 years) $40
  • Senior Cat (10 + years) Fee Waived

Patron Pets – $250

Patron Pets are those animals (both dogs and cats) that due to breed, size, or public demand, spend very little time in their Adoption Center.

The higher adoption fee allows the center to help those animals that take longer to adopt out or require more medical help than others.

Patron Pets dog adoptions include a six month supply of heart-worm prevention.

Adoption Center visitation hours are Monday – Friday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Adoption Center is located at 6230 77th Street in Vero Beach. They can be contacted by calling (772) 388-3331 Ext. 110.
