VERO BEACH — Breeze Airways is adding nonstop service to Pittsburgh from Vero Beach Regional Airport this fall, the latest expansion for the low-cost carrier at the Indian River County gateway.
The new route kicks off Oct. 1 with flights scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Introductory one-way fares start at $89, the airline said Monday.
The airline, which began flying here in February 2023, already offers nonstop flights to eight destinations, most of them in the Northeast. With Pittsburgh, it will reach 10 cities total from Vero Beach. The carrier now bills itself as the airport’s hometown airline.
Breeze Chief Commercial Officer Lukas Johnson said the airport has plenty of room to grow and a lot of potential.
The Pittsburgh announcement comes as Breeze layers on more flights at Vero Beach Regional Airport. Nonstop service to Raleigh, N.C., begins this month. Starting Sept. 30, the airline will offer one-stop service to Provo, near Salt Lake City, with no plane change required.
The airport has drawn two other carriers in recent months. JetBlue launched daily flights to Boston and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport in December. American Airlines added service to Charlotte, N.C., in February.
Vero Beach airport officials have called the expansions a boon for local travelers, providing more options without the need to drive to larger hubs like Orlando or Palm Beach.
Breeze Airways, founded by aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman, focuses on underserved markets with affordable fares on Airbus A220 jets. The Raleigh route is part of a broader push by the airline, which also recently unveiled new summer services from Raleigh to destinations including Bangor, Maine, and New York’s Stewart International Airport.
