VERO BEACH – The burn ban in Indian River County for areas such as Vero Beach, Fellsmere, and Sebastian has been discontinued.

Residents in the county are urged to continue observing fire safety procedures, including:

  • Refraining from burning yard waste when high winds are present.
  • Ensuring that all fires are properly extinguished.
  • Never leaving fires unattended.

Since last week, several inches of rain has fallen in Indian River County, even causing a few flooding areas in Vero Beach.

Florida has been extremely dry for several months, and thunderstorms are the leading cause of fires.

As the county-wide burn ban comes to an end, the rain is expected to continue until next week.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday night.

Friday will be partly sunny with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. The high will be near 85.

There will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday night. The low will be around 73.

Saturday and Sunday has a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be near 88 degrees, the lows around 73.

Take an umbrella if you plan to visit the Vero Beach Wine and Film Festival.
