VERO BEACH — A 25-year-old man died early Friday after the motorcycle he was driving left the roadway and struck a concrete utility pole, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.
Officers responded to the intersection of Eighth Avenue and 21st Street after receiving a report of a deceased person in the grassy median. The man was identified as the driver of a 2008 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle.
An investigation found the motorcycle left the roadway as it approached the intersection and crashed into the pole.
Police said the driver was captured on multiple traffic cameras along U.S. 1 as he entered the city limits of Vero Beach around 12:30 a.m. Friday. Analysis by the department’s traffic division determined the motorcycle was traveling at 113 mph when it passed through the intersection of 15th Place and U.S. 1, about a half-mile from the crash scene.
Speed was the sole contributing factor in the crash, the Vero Beach police said.
