SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian River High School Lady Sharks varsity softball team turned in one of its strongest seasons in recent years, finishing ranked 96th in the state by the FHSAA.
The Lady Sharks scored 128 runs while allowing just 66 during the campaign. That balance of offense and defense reflected the kind of disciplined, consistent play that has become a trademark of the program.
Two seniors received top individual recognition. Rily Biggers and Gabrielle Espich earned all-area first team honors. Sophomore Layla McKinney and freshman Kendra Powers were named to the all-area honorable mention list, giving the Lady Sharks a solid mix of experience and emerging talent.
The team also delivered in the classroom. After introducing a 2.5 GPA requirement for varsity players, the Lady Sharks finished the school year with a combined team GPA of 3.703.
The program’s success was also recognized beyond the field as Head Coach Tom Carow was recognized by Sebastian Daily for two consecutive seasons.
The Lady Sharks return a strong core next year and continue to stress academics alongside on-field development. That foundation of accountability and steady work has the program positioned for more success in the seasons ahead.
