On Tuesday, June 24, local nonprofit Coastal Connections will host a Coastal Cleanup at Sebastian Inlet State Park, kicking off at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to gather at The Cove, near the park’s restrooms, to sign in and join the effort to keep the area’s beaches clean.
This event is part of a bigger effort, like the Florida Coastal Cleanup across the state, where people team up to pick up trash from beaches and shores. The aim is to keep the park beautiful and protect sea animals from dangerous litter, such as fishing lines, hooks, and plastic garbage.
Coastal Connections partnered with the Sebastian Inlet District and Sebastian Inlet State Park to organize this cleanup. The goal is to remove trash that harms wildlife and damages the environment. Previous cleanups have proven how effective these efforts can be.
For instance, during the third annual Sebastian Inlet Cleanup on May 1-2, divers and volunteers hauled out roughly 1,500 pounds of debris, including monofilament fishing lines, nets, and lead sinkers.
Based in Vero Beach, Coastal Connections has been championing coastal conservation since its founding in 2017. The nonprofit’s mission centers on protecting habitats and supporting sea turtle recovery in Indian River County.
Through programs like monofilament recycling and community-driven cleanups, the organization promotes sustainable practices and works to prevent wildlife entanglement.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join the June 24 cleanup. Just show up ready to help keep Sebastian Inlet State Park a haven for both wildlife and visitors.
