VERO BEACH — Matthew Allen Waggle, the 33-year-old man sought in the fatal shooting of 52-year-old Dawn Kriskewic, was taken into custody Wednesday by U.S. Marshals at a motel near Dunbar, West Virginia, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Detectives are working to return Waggle to Indian River County to face charges in connection with the homicide.
“Our detectives are working to bring him back to Indian River County to answer for his crimes and give Dawn Kriskewic’s family the closure they deserve,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement early Thursday. “Thank you to the U.S. Marshals Service for safely taking Waggle into custody, and to our detectives, crime scene personnel, and Real Time Crime Center analysts who have not stopped working this case since the murder.”
More details are expected at a 1:30 p.m. news conference Thursday.
Kriskewic was found with an apparent gunshot wound in the roadway in the 500 block of 1st Street shortly after 8:40 a.m. Sunday. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a woman in the road, began life-saving measures and had her taken to a trauma center, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators have described the case as a domestic violence homicide. Authorities said Waggle and Kriskewic had been in an on-and-off relationship. Sheriff Eric Flowers previously said Waggle fled the area in a vehicle after the shooting and was considered armed and dangerous. A nationwide alert was issued for him.
