SEBASTIAN — Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital brought community spirit and family fun to the Sebastian Inlet Sunday, June 21, during the Longest Day, Longest Ride Surf Contest hosted by the Sebastian Chamber of Commerce.
The daylong event combined a surfing competition, island-style games and live entertainment with a clear purpose: raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care and support. Orlando Health sponsored Sober Surfers, a group of nine participants who competed in surf heats throughout the day.
Volunteers from Orlando Health and Sober Surfers connected with attendees at the health system’s tent. They handed out beach-ready giveaways such as mineral-safe sunscreen and beach balls. Team members also raffled off a boombox and beach chairs. Orlando Health team member Victor Rodriguez volunteered as a judge for the contest.
Hundreds of people turned out for the activities, which ranged from surfing heats and fishing challenges to hula hoop contests and live music along Florida’s coastline.
Heather Proffit, community relations manager for Orlando Health, said the focus is on more than just the cause.
“For us, it’s about meeting people where they are and supporting not just their health, but their sense of community and connection,” Proffit said. “Events like this bring families together in a positive, uplifting way while also raising awareness about a disease that touches so many lives.”

Orlando Health continues to support family-oriented community events that promote connection, wellness and awareness for important causes.
