A high-speed chase on U.S. Highway 1 in Sebastian resulted in the arrest of a motorcyclist last Thursday.
William Anthony Brbovic of Kentucky was apprehended after fleeing and eluding police at dangerous speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The incident began when an Indian River County Sheriff’s deputy clocked Brbovic traveling at 77 mph in a 50 mph zone, using Stalker radar technology. During the attempted traffic stop near Barber Street in Sebastian, Brbovic accelerated, leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit.
Brbovic’s evasion tactics included turning onto 79th Street, a dead-end, and driving down a sidewalk to avoid deputies. The chase continued with the support of the sheriff’s office aviation helicopter unit, HAWK, which observed the suspect reentering U.S. Highway 1 and eventually turning onto another dead-end street.
The 41-year-old suspect, upon his arrest, admitted to understanding the deputies’ signals to stop but chose to continue fleeing, stating he believed deputies would call off the chase. Additionally, it was revealed that Brbovic did not possess a valid motorcycle license.
Following the chase, Brbovic was transported to the Indian River County Jail. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
