SEBASTIAN — A bicycle pub crawl that started with a handful of friends is rolling into its 10th year Saturday, looping through five local spots and raising money for Hibiscus Children’s Center.
The Great Bike Bar-A-Thon is set for Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 12:00 pm at Pareidolia Brewing Company. Riders, walkers, and drivers are welcome. Cash is useful on the route for raffle tickets being sold at Captain Hiram’s Resort and for faster service at all locations.
There is no entry fee. Organizers ask only that participants have a good time, support the businesses on the route, and donate what they can.
Ride Schedule
- Pareidolia Brewing, 712 Cleveland St. — noon to 1 p.m.
- Mash Monkeys Brewing, 920 U.S. 1 — 1:05 to 1:50 p.m.
- Redfish Saloon, 1670 Indian River Drive — 2 to 2:45 p.m., group photo
- Captain Hiram’s, 1580 U.S. 1 — 2:50 to 3:55 p.m., raffle and auction
- Earl’s Hideaway Lounge, 1405 Indian River Drive — 4 p.m. until the crowd thins out
The stops sit close enough that most people ride from one to the next. Those who would rather walk or drive can still take part.
This year’s beneficiary is Hibiscus Children’s Center, a Treasure Coast nonprofit that has provided shelter, mental health care and family support to abused, abandoned and neglected children since 1985. The agency operates the Tilton Family Children’s Shelter in Jensen Beach and Hibiscus Village in Vero Beach, serving Martin, Indian River, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties.
Over the past decade, the ride has raised thousands of dollars for local groups. Past events have supported HALO Rescue, the no-kill shelter in Sebastian, and the Marine Resources Council, which works on Indian River Lagoon restoration. In 2019, more than 100 people turned out, and the ride sent nearly $4,000 to HALO.
