SEBASTIAN — Production has wrapped in Sebastian on the independent comedy “The Joke Is on You,” and the project is now in post-production with a release planned for early 2027.
Director Roy Garton, a Sebastian resident, said FDMC Digital Media finished principal photography after a long Saturday at the Sebastian Community Center. Crews worked into Friday night converting the building into a studio, cafeteria and makeup room so cameras could roll through a 12-hour shoot the next day.
Exterior footage was captured with drones and ground cameras near the community center. Six local residents worked as background actors. Cast and crew came from Miami, Fort Pierce, Sebastian and Melbourne.
The film follows three comedians who run into legal trouble and are ordered by a judge into an unusual therapy session instead of jail. Garton is directing. His wife, Mary Myers-Garton, also of Sebastian, co-wrote the screenplay and appears in the cast. The actress playing Tiffany is Lila Wagner-Gleeson.
Garton thanked the city for providing locations. He also credited Captain Hiram’s with housing visiting cast and crew, and the Houston Corporation’s McDonald’s restaurants, Jersey Mike’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s for catering.
Garton has directed and produced several independent films, collected festival awards and worked as an actor in movies, television and commercials. Earlier coverage listed Jacksonville actress Claire Louise Huder and Fort Pierce actor Dillon Kormarnsky among the cast.
The production company has said the finished film is aimed at streaming platforms and the festival circuit.
