SEBASTIAN — The City of Sebastian is asking residents for suggestions on the proposed upgrades to the playground and splash pad at Riverview Park. City staff will present a preliminary design of the enhancements at the session and solicit community recommendations to improve the final blueprints for the heavily used, family-oriented recreational facility.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. at Sebastian City Hall, 1225 Main Street.
In January, the Sebastian City Council approved Concept C for associated street modifications. That plan preserves Harrison Street as an open thoroughfare while incorporating an extended speed table — a elongated, flattened traffic-calming device — to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance pedestrian safety in the vicinity of the park.
Funding for the project includes two grants totaling $3.2 million:
- The Florida Inland Navigation District is responsible for the design and permitting for the first phase, which must be completed by mid-September 2026.
- The Land and Water Conservation Grant
Bidding for Phase I construction is anticipated between October and December 2026, with actual site work projected from March 2027 through March 2028.
Phase II planning, encompassing the amphitheater and Twin Piers area, is slated for September 2026 to February 2027. That phase includes volleyball courts, additional on-street parking, pier improvements, expanded sidewalks and enhanced landscaping.
Residents interested in shaping the park’s future are encouraged to attend the June 11 session and provide feedback on the proposed amenities.
