According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) a single-engine airplane crashed this morning on private property east of I-95 close to the 155-mile marker in Fellsmere, Florida.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. The plane crashed inside Fellsmere city limits but came to rest in an undeveloped part of the city. Medical personnel at Lawnwood Medical Center attended to the sole occupant of the aircraft who was transported by helicopter from the crash site. His condition is currently unknown.
The Fellsmere Police Department together with the IRCSO has arrived at the crash site to perform their investigation. The pilot’s identity will stay confidential until all next of kin have received notice.
Following reports of the crash event both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and are now en route to the scene to conduct their independent investigations.
