MICCO — A pedestrian died Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk at U.S. 1 and Barefoot Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported about 5:15 a.m. in south Brevard County, just north of Micco Road at the entrance to Barefoot Bay.
Troopers said a 2011 Kia Soul was traveling south on U.S. 1 in the inside lane as it approached the intersection. The pedestrian was walking west in the southern crosswalk when the Kia struck the person.
The driver told investigators the signal was green when the vehicle entered the intersection and that the pedestrian was not seen in the crosswalk. FHP said it is still determining what color the traffic light was at the time of the collision.
The driver and a passenger were not injured and stayed at the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead there.
Southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were blocked while troopers worked the scene.
The pedestrian’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin. The crash remains under investigation.
