A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Brightline train near 12th Street west of Vero Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene where the occurred around 2:58 p.m., located between U.S. Highway 1 and Old Dixie Highway.
The pedestrian was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with railroad officials, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, 12th Street remains closed to traffic.
