VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Art Club has stepped up to support local educators, donating $1,700 to art teachers across the Indian River School District to help cover classroom supplies.
Each teacher in the county received a $100 check as part of the club’s Arts for Smarts program, which aims to ease the financial burden on instructors amid tight school budgets.
The initiative traces its roots back to the 1980s, when funding cuts prompted the club to launch efforts to keep art education thriving in area schools.
Funding for the program comes from donations collected at two annual events: the Art By the Sea Fine Art Show in January at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, and the Under the Oaks Fine Art Show each March in Riverside Park.
Club officials say the donations reflect a longstanding commitment to fostering creativity in the community.
