On Sunday, we checked out the NFL Game Day Destination at the Captain Hirams outdoor tiki-style Sandbar in Sebastian, Florida.
All bars and restaurants in Florida reopened to full capacity last week amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, patrons and employees at the Captain Hirams resort are still taking precautionary measures by wearing masks.
The games begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon. We watched multiple football games on four different large screens. Game Day is a family atmosphere with people wearing their favorite team jerseys.

As I glanced at the lunch menu, the Crab Cake Sandwich caught my attention. Many people know how picky I am when it comes to crab cakes, as I was during the Mo-Bay Grill review in Sebastian. While I’ve lived my entire life in Florida, I spent my summers in Maryland, born in Annapolis.
So, I ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich with onion rings instead of french fries for a small up-charge. I have always enjoyed the onion rings at Capt. Hirams.
The presentation was excellent, and the choice of bun they used was a perfect combination with this sandwich. The crab cake itself had plenty of lump meat, fewer fillers. A lot of restaurants will build a crab cake with too many fillers, which means less crab meat.
Martin Carter, one of the original Captain Hirams owners with Tom Collins, came from Ocean City, Maryland. He brought his recipe with him, and apparently, they are still using it. I would like to see a little more Old Bay seasoning with them, but I enjoyed the sandwich. I will order this item again.
One of the nice things about watching an NFL football game at Captain Hirams is the outdoor setting. I prefer to be outside, not stuck inside a dark bar setting. You can see the boats going by while watching the games.
There are places around the Sandbar where people can sit and watch the games without getting rained on, so that’s another plus for Captain Hirams.
