Dorothy Jane McDermott age 95 died peacefully on January 20, 2020 at Samaritan hospice in Mount Holly NJ.

She was born in Jersey City NJ and was the second of four sisters. When she was 20 years old she wanted to serve her country and joined the Navy during World War II. She was stationed in Washington DC for two years as a decoder.

After the war ended she attended Drake College of Business in Jersey City under the G.I. Bill. Just a few short months after graduating she met her first husband John M Ozell on a blind date; A marine veteran who died in early 1980 at the age of 55.

She then moved to Barefoot Bay Florida and at the age of 70 reconnected with an old neighbor, Martin E. McDermott (deceased) who once lived across the street in Edison NJ. They were married for 20 years.

She loved living in Florida and gained many friends volunteering at the library and Sebastian River Medical Center. She also enjoyed shuffleboard, playing cards, reading, cryptograms, and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her sister Margaret (Hulsart) Drobish, of Barefoot Bay Florida, Molly Sturt (deceased) Helen Ruth Berbrick (deceased) her daughter Christine Hart (Ozell) and son-in-law David, In Juliustown NJ with whom she had lived for the past five years, Mark Ozell and her daughter-in-law Marge in Howell NJ, Jon Ozell who resides in Dania Beach FL and Linda (McDermott) Cuccia (deceased). 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held on May 8 at Brigadier General William C Doyle veteran cemetery in Arneytown NJ. Donations can be made to SamaritanNJ.org/Giving.
