WABASSO – Local agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for a swimmer who may be missing from Wabasso Beach Park, officials said.

A beachgoer reported a man missing just before dark Saturday, which prompted the Coast Guard to launch a boat and helicopter.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Brandon Murray said a bystander saw a man swimming in the surf, but did not see him return.

The bystander reported what she saw to the Wabasso Beach Park lifeguards at approximately 4:15 p.m.

The swimmer was described as a 30 to 40-year-old white man with dark hair wearing a red bathing suit.

Officials resumed their search Sunday near the beach.
