INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 17-year-old died late Friday after he was shot near Garcia’s Boat Ramp near Fellsmere, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were sent to the 3700 block of County Road 512 at about 11:24 p.m. on reports of a juvenile who had been shot. They found the teen and started lifesaving measures until Indian River County Fire Rescue arrived.
He was taken to Sebastian River Medical Center and later flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and crime scene personnel are processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. The sheriff’s office said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
