On Thursday, a Sebastian Police Department search warrant executed at the 500 block of Fleming Street led to the arrests of two men, David Hampton, 45, and Steven Meeks, 19, in connection with separate drug-related charges.
The search, executed around 9:30 a.m., was part of an active narcotics investigation and approved by 19th Judicial Circuit Judge Robert Meadows.
During the search of Hampton’s room, officers uncovered multiple items of drug paraphernalia, including three metal spoons with fentanyl residue, a used syringe containing suspected fentanyl, and a plastic baggie with white powder residue. Officers performed a field test on the spoon residue, which tested positive for trace amounts of fentanyl, according to the police affidavit.
After being informed of the search warrant and read his Miranda rights, Hampton admitted to officers that the spoons and syringe were used for fentanyl. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl) under F.S.S. 893.13(Ga) and possession of drug paraphernalia under F.S.S. 893.147(1).
Hampton was arrested without incident and transported to Indian River County Jail for processing. He was also issued a uniform traffic citation (ALSNE) for the possession charge.
At the same time, officers made contact with Steven Meeks, who was identified using his Florida license photo. Meeks was found to have an active warrant from the Sebastian Police Department for possession of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, the police affidavit said. Meeks was taken into custody without incident and transported to Indian River County Jail for processing.
Police said Hampton and Meeks agreed to speak with detectives during the investigation.
The Sebastian Police Department has not released further details, and the investigation remains ongoing.
