VERO BEACH – The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is waiving adoption fees on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter, 6230 77th St., as it partners with NBCUniversal Local for the annual Clear the Shelters event.
“We have so many wonderful dogs and cats that deserve homes, and Clear the Shelters is the perfect way for families to discover them,” said Nichola Redmond, chief executive officer of the Humane Society of Vero Beach. “With adoption fees waived, we hope everyone who visits the shelter finds their new fur baby to bring home.”
Anyone unable to attend Saturday can still adopt adult cats and dogs fee-free the following week, Aug. 23-30.
Clear the Shelters has found homes for more than 1 million pets since it began in 2015. Hill’s Pet Nutrition is the presenting sponsor this year and will supply adoption kits at select shelters. The kits include starter bags of Hill’s Science Diet food, coupons and other supplies for new pet owners.
