In a first-of-its-kind exhibition, the Cultural Council of Indian River County, in collaboration with the Vero Beach Museum of Art, presents Abstract Art: Conceptual Creativity, on view in the Patten Community Gallery September 9 through October 9, 2022.
As part of its Art in Public Places initiative, Cultural Council member artists were invited to submit 2D and 3D works of painting, drawing, ceramic, sculpture, and mixed media in abstract style. Often under-represented and misunderstood, abstract art tends to focus on line, shape, texture, and color expressions rather than realistic or representational art.
“Our member artists responded to the call with bold, creative, and evocative works,” said Mark Wygonik, Administrator of the AIPP program.
“The variety of abstract interpretations might have been a challenge for the Museum staff to showcase, but they’ve produced a stunning exhibit.”
There is no charge to visit the Education wing of the Museum and view the exhibit in the Patten Community Gallery. The Vero Beach Museum of Art hours are: Mondays, Closed, Tues. through Sat., 10 am to 4:30, Sun., 1 pm to 4 pm.
The Cultural Council’s Art in Public Places has four venues of exhibition, the Indian River County Courthouse, Indian River County Administration Buildings A and B, the Intergenerational Recreation Center and the Vero Beach Municipal Airport. New shows are rotated regularly every three months.
The Art in Public Places program is made possible through a grant from the Florida Department of State’s Division of Arts and Culture. The Division promotes the arts and culture as essential to quality of life for all Floridians.
The Cultural Council of Indian River County, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, promotes visual, literary and performing arts through education, collaboration, marketing and advocacy to enrich the lives of residents and visitors. It is the County’s designated arts agency.
