SEBASTIAN – When Jerry McGlaughlin made his annual trip to Sebastian from Maryland, he was in for a surprise.
Jerry brought his daughter Katie McGlaughlin and her boyfriend Arch McQuade on the trip to Florida. They had a wonderful time going on an airboat and all the other things Indian River County has to offer.
They also enjoyed the entertainment at the Tiki Bar & Grill in Sebastian, a place Jerry visits each year.
“They were down in Florida visiting from Glen Burnie, Maryland with Bonnie and Frank Davis and their daughter and husband Myssi Davis and Joe Horstkamp,” said Jerry.
At the end of their stay, they went to the Tiki Bar and walked out on the pier. I just happened to be there myself, with my wife and a few friends.
That’s when Jerry walked up to me and said, “you’ll never guess what just happened.” I looked at him puzzled, only knowing that the three of them just walked from the pier. Maybe they saw a dolphin or a manatee?
Jerry asked his daughter to show me, and there it was! Katie was sporting an engagement ring.
Apparently, Arch already asked Jerry for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The two men kept it a secret during the trip.
As they walked the pier, Arch got down on one knee and asked Katie to marry him. It all happened right here in our town of Sebastian.
It was a magical night for the couple, and Jerry says he’s a proud father.
