Pizza Mia in Vero Beach, Florida.

Last Friday, we were notified that a food service worker at Pizza Mia in Vero Beach tested positive for hepatitis A by the Florida Department of Health in Indian River County.

“The employee was a new hire who only worked limited hours on the 4 days (July 19, 20, 22, 23) clearing tables & answering phones. On the next day she was scheduled to work, she called in sick with symptoms that now appear to be related to Hepatitis A,” Pizza Mia said in a statement.

They are a small business in Vero Beach and, unfortunately, this could’ve happened at any restaurant.

Pizza Mia had no way of knowing that the worker was infected with Hepatitis A. The owners are devastated, and I think as a community we should support this small establishment during this difficult time.

We at Sebastian Daily will continue to order pizza at this restaurant. Pizza Mia has our full support, and we ask the community to do the same.

One of our food and restaurant critics, Brian LaPersonerie, visited the establishment in February 2019 and published an outstanding Pizza Mia review.

There is also a Facebook event to Support Pizza Mia on August 9 through August 10. The event coordinator is asking the public to stop in and order a slice or a pie to help make up for any business-related repercussions.
